The YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Lifeguard to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all pool participants. Reporting to the Aquatics Coordinator/Director, you will be responsible for surveillance, emergency response, and upholding our high standards of cleanliness and member service.
What You'll Do
- Know and review all emergency procedures, responding immediately to situations in accordance with YMCA policies and completing required reports.
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and apply safety rules and guidelines consistently.
- Build and maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.
- Uphold a professional appearance, dressing according to uniform requirements.
- Ensure all participants wear appropriate swim attire and footwear, performing swim tests for first-time swimmers and providing necessary flotation devices.
- Refer any medical conditions requiring further investigation to the Aquatics Director.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness for the deck, structures, and equipment.
- Keep accurate records as required by the YMCA and state Health Department code.
- Find a replacement guard when unable to work and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Perform daily equipment checks and direct all pool maintenance concerns to the Aquatics Director immediately.
- Check the pool for hazardous conditions upon arrival and perform chemical testing at required times.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
- Utilize the time clock, monitor your timesheet, and submit corrections to your supervisor promptly.
- Uphold all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your Supervisor.
What We're Looking For
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements and meet the Association’s background screening policies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Adherence to a drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
- Sound decision-making skills and the ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA, Red Cross, or other nationally recognized program standards.
- Professional appearance and attitude.
- CPR for the Rescue Professional/First Aid/AED Certifications are required.
- Current YMCA, Red Cross, or other nationally recognized lifeguarding certification with corresponding CPR/AED and First Aid requirements.
- Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens Training and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training annually.
- Ability to meet all Staff Safety Requirements and Cleaning Protocols.
- Note: Employment is contingent upon completing a required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
Team & Environment
You will report directly to the Aquatics Coordinator/Director, working as part of a team dedicated to aquatic safety and member service.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position.
