Penn State University's Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is hiring a Licensing Associate to manage intellectual property portfolios stemming from the university's $1.3 billion annual research base. You'll play a key role in developing strategies for inventions in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences/Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences, translating complex technical information into compelling business development materials to foster commercial partnerships.
What You'll Do
- Implement strategies to develop intellectual property portfolios, managing complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the portfolio for Penn State derived inventions, including outreach to new inventors and triage of new disclosures.
- Generate a wide range of content to engage inventors and industry liaisons to advance portfolios of licensable technologies.
- Translate technical information into business development materials, with a focus on building long-term, strategic relationships.
- Liaison with innovators and licensees on intellectual property and business development matters.
- Assist with the identification and development of opportunities for commercial partnerships and/or licensing.
- Assist throughout the negotiation and execution process of license agreements.
- Identify opportunities to increase OTT's success in reaching our goals.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to conduct and easily prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent judgment and soft skills to interface with esteemed faculty members, senior business contacts, and investors.
- A high level of dexterity to understand a diverse range of technologies.
- A high interest and open mind to learn legal skills, complex business development skills, and to manage a portfolio while educating and guiding inventors.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Team & Environment
This role reports to the Associate Director of Technology Transfer.
