What You'll Do
Perform routine surveys of gas infrastructure by walking assigned routes to monitor pipelines, meters, and adjacent areas for potential leaks. Use remote methane detection tools and follow detailed maps to locate and evaluate gas line positions. Conduct visual checks on system components and classify leaks based on severity, ensuring timely reporting and escalation when necessary.
Collect and record field data using handheld devices, maintaining compliance with federal Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and utility-specific safety procedures. Complete daily work orders on schedule, participate in regular safety briefings, and follow protocols for equipment handling and documentation. Engage professionally with the public when providing service information, and promptly refer customer concerns to the appropriate channels.
Requirements
Must have at least one year of continuous employment with a single employer or six months of outdoor work experience. A valid driver’s license is required, along with the ability to pass mandatory drug and alcohol screenings per federal DOT regulations. Candidates must successfully complete Pipeline Operator Qualification (OQ) training upon hire. This role involves extended periods of walking and standing, often in adverse weather, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
