What You'll Do
Plan, map, and maintain fiber optic network infrastructure to support large-scale computing systems. You'll spend significant time in the field conducting site assessments and developing detailed designs for both outside plant (aerial and underground) and inside plant (building entry and riser pathways).
Use IQGeo Network Manager and CAD software to model fiber routes, import spatial data, and generate technical reports. Document new and existing fiber connections, including cross-connects and jumpers, ensuring records remain current and precise. Perform field testing using visual fault locators and optical power meters, and carry out routine connector cleaning and inspection.
Apply OTDR techniques to analyze fiber performance and interpret trace data. Work closely with engineering and construction teams to ensure proper installation and organization of optical cross-connect jumpers. Support permitting efforts and quality assurance processes, adhering to established telecom standards throughout project lifecycles.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of direct experience in fiber optic network design, field surveying, testing, and deployment—formal education may be substituted with equivalent field expertise
- Proficient with IQGeo Network Manager, CAD, or comparable geospatial design platforms
- Skilled in operating fiber testing tools such as VFL and OPM, and experienced in jumper and cross-connect installation
- Valid driver’s license and physical ability to perform field tasks, including walking varied terrain, climbing ladders, and handling cabling
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%, including overnight stays
Benefits
This role supports a mission-driven environment that values engineering precision, initiative, and practical problem-solving. You’ll work within a flat structure where hands-on contributions directly influence outcomes. The position emphasizes attention to detail, technical rigor, and collaboration across teams in a fast-moving operational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hold certifications such as CFOT or equivalent fiber optic technician credentials
- Demonstrate understanding of fiber standards, proper connector maintenance, and efficient routing of jumpers and cross-connects
- Familiarity with NetBox or similar DCIM/IPAM systems
- Experience supporting permitting workflows and quality assurance in telecom or data center contexts
- Strong analytical thinking, documentation practices, and troubleshooting abilities
- Knowledge of laser safety protocols and a consistent focus on safe work methods
- Proven ability to thrive in dynamic, detail-oriented environments with minimal supervision
