Lead Software Engineer at Allwyn Lottery Solutions
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer responsible for the engineering output of the entire team at Allwyn Lottery Solutions. You will act as an individual contributor while providing support, coordination, and leadership to team members. You will work closely with Product Owners to deliver technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
What You'll Do
- Act as an individual contributor who has the responsibility for the engineering output of the entire team.
- Contribute to the codebase and provide support to fellow team members.
- Fulfill all the key accountabilities expected of a software engineer within the development team and for all the software components under the team's responsibility.
- Ensure that the team members pick up appropriate tasks, get appropriate help, support and attention during the resolution of the task.
- Ensure proper cross-team coordination of changes and technical decision making happens as part of the work of their team.
- Contribute to technical designs of the system.
- Engage and coordinate with other line managers across the organization and coordinate with Head of Engineering and Software Architects.
- Seek advice when facing particularly challenging or complex problems.
- Deliver technical solutions with respect to expectations on functionality, budget, and timeline.
- Work closely with Product Owners to ensure clarity on goals and business objectives that need to be achieved.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance and how to balance all of; Security, privacy, quality, testability, re-use, maintainability, usability, accessibility, performance, customer requirements, NFRs, and delivery.
- Support Recruitment and decision making in hiring to fill the team’s positions.
- Decide, propose and support training that is required on the job, and overview the onboarding process to new hires.
- Have regular 1-1 with all team members on a monthly basis, ideally.
- Maintain strong rapport with the team members in a professional and personal manner.
- Communicate information from top to bottom and from bottom to top.
- Identify the need for improvements and take actions.
- Evaluate overall team and individual performance and participate in performance reviews.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Lead Software Engineer or similar senior engineering role.
- Significant experience as an individual contributor in software engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, support, and coordinate a team of engineers.
- Strong experience working closely with Product Owners to translate business objectives into technical solutions.
- Deep technical expertise to contribute to system design and the codebase.
- Experience in ensuring team effectiveness, task delegation, and providing support.
- Excellent cross-team coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to engage and coordinate with other line managers, Head of Engineering, and Software Architects.
- Proven ability to deliver technical solutions against functionality, budget, and timeline expectations.
- Comprehensive understanding of balancing Security, privacy, quality, testability, re-use, maintainability, usability, accessibility, performance, customer requirements, NFRs, and delivery.
- Experience in recruitment processes and hiring decisions.
- Experience in identifying training needs, proposing training, and overseeing onboarding.
- Experience in conducting regular 1-1 meetings and maintaining professional rapport.
- Strong upward and downward communication skills.
- Proactive in identifying improvements and taking action.
- Experience in evaluating team and individual performance and participating in performance reviews.
