Engineering Manager, Mobile
Role Overview
Lead and develop mobile engineering teams focused on iOS and Android platforms. Guide the evolution of mobile architecture with an emphasis on performance, reliability, and long-term scalability. Work closely with product, design, infrastructure, and data teams to align mobile development with company-wide objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor engineers across multiple mobile teams, fostering technical excellence and leadership growth on both iOS and Android platforms.
- Define and execute a forward-looking mobile strategy that balances immediate product needs with foundational improvements in performance, stability, and developer efficiency.
- Champion observability and performance optimization, ensuring teams can diagnose issues and understand real-world app behavior at scale.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to align mobile architecture with broader technical and business goals.
- Drive clarity in decision-making, especially in complex, ambiguous situations requiring coordination across teams.
- Establish and refine best practices in mobile development, including architecture, testing, release quality, and technical debt management.
- Support career development for senior individual contributors and emerging engineering leaders.
- Be based within commuting distance of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of mobile engineering teams (iOS, Android, or both).
- Strong technical background in mobile application architecture, performance tuning, and production reliability.
- Experience with mobile observability tools and diagnosing real-world performance issues.
- Proven ability to lead high-impact initiatives requiring coordination across multiple teams.
- Collaborative leadership style with strong judgment in navigating trade-offs.
- Track record of scaling teams, developing leaders, and cultivating high-performing engineering cultures.
- Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and hands-on levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with backend or platform teams, or direct contributions to backend systems earlier in your career.

Hybrid role requiring presence within commuting distance of San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, or New York. Teams collaborate remotely but are co-located with in-person coordination as needed.
