About the Role

The Institute for Defense Analyses is hiring a Lead Network Engineer to envision, design, and maintain multiple data, voice, and video telecommunication networks. With minimal supervision, you will contribute to large program initiatives, join in strategic planning, and ensure systems meet stringent security and business requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Take the primary role as project leader and designer for new IT technology initiatives.
  • Develop test and integration plans for new systems and software to ensure compatibility with the current IT infrastructure.
  • Build new networks to design specifications.
  • Provide operational support and maintenance to ensure systems functionality, availability, security, and performance.
  • Ensure all systems meet or exceed business and security requirements in accordance with IDA, DOW, NSA, DISA, and DSS directives.
  • Mentor junior staff and coordinate work assignments to ensure project schedules are maintained.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including standard operating procedures and processes.
  • Develop resolutions to complex problems that require frequent use of creativity.
  • Administer and maintain classified and unclassified networks and telecommunication systems to ensure optimum performance and availability.
  • Maintain technical proficiency in new IT technologies, keeping abreast of industry trends and making recommendations to improve services.
  • Communicate all computer network, system, and service problems and outages immediately to supervisors.
  • Respond to critical after-hours support issues.

What We're Looking For

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of eight years in IT, including six years in network administration OR a high school diploma with a minimum of ten years in IT, including six years in network administration.
  • Possess advanced, subject matter expertise in IP-based network and telecommunication system design, administration, and support, preferably Cisco.
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with all levels of employees; possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Project management experience.
  • Must be willing to work hours outside of a regular schedule.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearances.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the current DOW 8140 and/or DOW 8570 certification or obtain relevant education substitution within 6 months of employment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS, InfoBlox, Ironport, and Riverbed.
  • Experience working with Cisco Catalyst 9K switches and Cisco Nexus 9K switches.
  • Experience working with Cisco ISR/ASR routers.
  • Experience with Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Unity Connection, and Cisco IM & Presence.
  • A Cisco Certified Network Professional certification, or equivalent knowledge or experience.
