About the Role
The intern will contribute to ongoing medicinal chemistry efforts by conducting synthetic chemistry experiments, analyzing results, and assisting in the optimization of compounds for therapeutic development.
Responsibilities
- Perform organic synthesis of small molecules under supervision
- Conduct routine reactions and purify compounds using standard laboratory techniques
- Analyze reaction outcomes using analytical methods such as HPLC and NMR
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks
- Support the design and execution of structure-activity relationship studies
- Collaborate with team members to interpret experimental data
- Assist in scaling up promising compounds for further testing
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and guidelines
- Utilize chemical databases to retrieve relevant scientific information
- Prepare samples for biological evaluation
- Monitor reaction progress using thin-layer chromatography and other methods
- Troubleshoot experimental issues with guidance from senior staff
- Participate in team meetings and scientific discussions
- Contribute to the documentation of research findings
- Apply principles of green chemistry where applicable
- Handle chemical reagents and solvents safely
- Support method development for synthetic routes
- Work with computational tools to model molecular structures
- Assist in the characterization of new compounds
- Follow project timelines and report progress regularly
- Use laboratory information management systems for data entry
