Role Overview
Join a focused healthcare initiative as an Inpatient Coding Auditor, working remotely with a flexible schedule. This role supports a Level 1 Trauma program through comprehensive coding audits over a 3–6 month period, with potential for extension. You'll play a key part in ensuring coding integrity, supporting clinical documentation improvements, and delivering actionable insights to leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed audits of approximately 125 inpatient medical records, maintaining an average review pace of 1–1.5 charts per hour
- Apply standardized scoring methods, manage provider rebuttals, and compile a concise executive summary of audit outcomes
- Use 3M CAC to validate assigned codes, ensuring proper specificity and accurate reflection of patient acuity
- Identify patterns in coding discrepancies, error frequency, and missed diagnostic opportunities, then develop practical recommendations
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to review findings and support documentation improvement strategies
- Design and lead educational sessions—both group and individual—based on audit results to strengthen coding practices
Qualifications
- AHIMA certification as RHIT or CCS is required
- Hands-on experience auditing inpatient coding within a Level 1 Trauma center
- Familiarity with Meditech EHR systems
- Demonstrated ability to analyze audit data, spot trends, and prepare executive-level reports
- Proven track record in developing and delivering formal education on coding standards
Work Environment
This position is fully remote with a flexible schedule, allowing you to work part-time or full-time (minimum 20 hours per week). Assignments are clearly defined, and communication is consistent and direct. You’ll have access to dedicated support and a direct line to recruitment staff for any questions.
