Review, analyze, and educate as an Outpatient Coding Auditor in a fully remote role designed for flexibility. You'll conduct comprehensive annual audits across Emergency Department, Same Day Surgery, and Observation services, focusing on accurate code assignment, documentation integrity, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed audits on approximately 300 outpatient records annually, maintaining an average review pace of 4–6 charts per hour
- Score audit findings, manage provider rebuttals, and compile executive-level summaries highlighting key trends and compliance gaps
- Analyze charge entry data, including medications, infusions, and injections, alongside diagnostic coding accuracy
- Evaluate Observation workflows, with specific attention to 48-hour carve-out protocols as configured in Lynx
- Support Same Day Surgery audits by reviewing both diagnosis and CPT coding for completeness and specificity
- Use 3M CAC to validate code selection, ensuring proper acuity and clinical alignment
- Identify opportunities for diagnosis queries and develop actionable recommendations to improve documentation practices
- Deliver targeted education sessions—both group and individual—based on audit outcomes to strengthen coding accuracy across teams
- Present findings and strategic insights to leadership, supporting data-informed decision-making
Qualifications
- AHIMA or AAPC certification required
- Hands-on experience with Meditech EHR systems
- Proven ability to lead formal education initiatives and present complex findings clearly
- Comfort engaging directly with leadership to discuss audit results and improvement plans
