Quora is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Infrastructure to build and operate large-scale distributed systems, taking responsibility for the platform's reliability, scalability, and efficiency. You will solve technically challenging problems in a small, agile team, playing a key role in Quora's core mission of sharing and growing the world's knowledge.

What You'll Do

Operate and manage backend databases and services like MySQL, HBase, Memcached, Redis, and Nginx.
Continuously improve infrastructure systems for scalability, reliability, and performance optimization.
Write and review code, plan and execute system upgrades, document processes, create capacity plans, and troubleshoot production issues.
Develop monitoring systems and automation tools to enhance team efficiency.
Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response.

What We're Looking For

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
4+ years of hands-on experience with large-scale distributed systems.
Expertise in data storage (MySQL, MyRocks, HBase, Memcached, Redis), traffic management (DNS, CDN, load balancing), and infrastructure orchestration (Ansible, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C++.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
The ability to independently debug issues in a production environment.
Professional proficiency in English for documentation, meetings, and technical discussions.

Nice to Have

Experience with AWS (EC2, S3) or other public clouds.
Hands-on operational experience with MySQL, Memcache, Redis, or NoSQL systems.
Understanding of Linux OS, file systems, disk/storage technologies, and network architecture.
Ability to use scripting languages like shell script.
Experience planning capacity for large-scale web systems.
Alignment with and passion for Quora's mission and vision.
