About the Role As an Infrastructure Platform Engineer at Fieldguide, you'll be crucial in designing, constructing, and delivering a state-of-the-art foundation for our product teams within a dynamic, cloud-based ecosystem. You'll collaborate closely with product developers to optimize cloud infrastructure, balancing performance, resilience, and cost-effectiveness. You'll lead production environment oversight by monitoring availability and adopting a comprehensive approach to system health, ensuring exceptional quality, security, and reliability. Your responsibilities will include providing primary operational support and engineering expertise across Fieldguide's distributed software applications. What You'll Do - Design, build, and maintain core platform infrastructure supporting scalable, reliable, and secure services across engineering teams. - Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform to ensure consistent, reliable environments. - Collaborate with software and data engineering teams to provide self-service infrastructure and platform tooling accelerating development workflows. - Monitor and enhance system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency through metrics, logging, and alerting frameworks. - Ensure infrastructure security and compliance by implementing best practices for identity management, network segmentation, secrets handling, and vulnerability management. - Contribute to incident response and postmortem processes, driving root cause analysis and long-term improvements. - Mentor and collaborate with engineers, fostering a culture of reliability, automation, and continuous improvement. - Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning, ensuring high availability and resilience of critical systems. - Document infrastructure design, architecture decisions, and operational procedures for transparency and team enablement. Who You Are - Extensive hands-on experience constructing complex cloud solutions using multiple AWS services. - Skilled in provisioning and configuring cloud services using Terraform and AWS CLI/API. - Proficient in designing effective monitoring/alerting and log aggregation solutions using tools like Datadog and AWS CloudWatch. - Solid understanding of data systems, including SQL and NoSQL. - Experience developing and maintaining software in security and regulatory compliance environments. - Comfortable participating in on-call support to ensure 24/7 service availability. - Passion for mentoring and coaching other engineers. - Excellent communication and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple competing priorities in a rapidly evolving environment. Bonus Points - Experience with GraphQL as a database front-end API. - Experience with database system architecture and observability to enhance database performance. - Experience working with AI and providing it as a tool for engineers and internal applications. - Experience working through and designing security audits.
