Role Overview
We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Indirect Tax Specialist to support our US tax compliance operations from our Mexico location. This role is central to maintaining accurate and timely tax reporting across multiple jurisdictions and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file sales and use tax returns accurately and on schedule
- Oversee third-party preparation of tax filings and ensure quality control
- Act as the main liaison with tax authorities for inquiries and correspondence
- Lead responses to state-level sales tax audits and manage resolution processes
- Maintain and organize exemption certificate documentation
- Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts
- Support compliance with 1099, 1042-S, unclaimed property, and personal property tax requirements
- Monitor evolving state nexus rules and assess impact on operations
- Assist with business licensing, state registrations, gross receipts tax, franchise tax, and annual report filings
- Collaborate with external providers on corporate income tax reporting matters
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required. You should bring hands-on experience in US tax compliance within a corporate setting and a solid understanding of federal, state, and local tax frameworks. Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Office are essential. The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment is critical.
Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA or equivalent credential, background in public accounting or consulting, and direct experience using Vertex and SAP ERP systems.
