Fehr Graham (a Trilon Group company) is looking for a Highway Department Manager to join our team. In this role, you will lead work on a variety of transportation projects for key clients such as the NJDOT and NJ Turnpike Authority, as well as other state and local agencies.
What You'll Do
- Manage department staff workload, technical development, and daily oversight.
- Coordinate with Project Managers to assign technical team members to projects.
- Monitor staff progress, identify issues and risks, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Assist Project Managers in managing project scope, schedule, budget, resources, and quality.
- Develop project proposals, budgets, and schedules in collaboration with clients and stakeholders.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineers, designers, and support staff.
- Coordinate project implementation with clients and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and present project status reports, progress updates, and deliverables.
- Act as Project Manager on select projects, leading multidisciplinary teams through planning, design, and execution.

What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- New Jersey Licensed Professional Engineer.
- At least 15 years of experience in highway engineering and roadway design.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in staff management.
- Direct experience working with NJDOT, NJ Turnpike, and NJ Counties.
- A proven track record of successfully managing projects from conception to completion.
- Strong technical expertise in transportation engineering principles, standards, and practices.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, InRoads and/or Power InRoads.
- Experience working with NJTA and NJDOT design and construction requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
