Tether Operations Limited is seeking a Head of Regulatory Affairs - Japan to lead our regulatory strategy and engagement within the country. You will be responsible for maintaining proactive relationships with key authorities, monitoring developments, and representing Tether and its affiliates in critical dialogues, shaping the regulatory landscape in a way that supports innovation and manages risk.
What You'll Do
- Maintain proactive relationships with policymakers, regulators, central banks, and financial intelligence units relevant to our product and service lines.
- Monitor regulatory developments impacting Tether and affiliate companies in Japan.
- Represent the company in consultations, workshops, industry roundtables, and regulatory dialogues.
- Prepare briefing papers, comment letters, and policy submissions aligned with our global regulatory strategy.
- Identify and successfully realise opportunities to shape emerging frameworks in a risk-sensitive, innovation-oriented manner.
- Provide actionable risk and regulatory insights to internal stakeholders across legal, product, compliance, risk, and commercial teams.
- Support enterprise-level planning for new products or expansions by advising on regulatory constraints and enablers.
- Contribute to internal reporting and executive briefings on policy risks and the regional regulatory trajectory.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 8 years of governmental affairs, regulatory affairs, or legal experience, ideally within the financial services or crypto-asset industry in Japan.
- Proven experience engaging with regulators or government bodies, advocating and advising in a regulatory capacity, with demonstrated achievements securing favourable policy positions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesise complex regulatory topics for non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders across borders and time zones.
- Exceptional public speaking skills and experience representing companies in regulatory discussions.
- Must be a strong team player, fully engaged with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be a hands-on professional capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
- Must be English speaking.

This role is part of the Regulatory and Licensing team, reporting to the Vice President of the Regulatory and Licensing division. You will be joining a lean, fast-growing leader in the industry.
