The University of British Columbia (UBC) is hiring a Head of Compensation, a new strategic leadership role designed to fuel the institution's next phase of hyper-growth. Reporting to the VP, People, you will be responsible for defining a comprehensive rewards and talent strategy that attracts, retains, and motivates top-tier talent. This pivotal role supercharges growth by ensuring the overall compensation strategy is a key competitive advantage.
What You'll Do
- Refine our existing total rewards philosophy, including compensation, equity, short-term incentive plans, and benefits, ensuring alignment with our business objectives and high-growth culture.
- Design and manage all variable pay and incentive programs, from go-to-market (GTM) commission plans to KPI-based bonuses for our operations and product teams.
- Lead the evolution of our compensation framework, conducting market analysis and building scalable structures for both our salaried corporate/tech employees and our hourly fulfillment center workforce.
- Oversee the strategic administration of our equity program, including modeling, grant planning, and employee education, as we prepare for a future public offering.
- Advise on workforce planning and talent strategy to ensure we are attracting and retaining the right people in the right roles to meet our aggressive growth targets.
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Compensation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience building and leading the compensation function in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
- Proven track record of designing and administering customized short-term incentive plans and equity programs for a private company.
- Expertise in designing and managing compensation for diverse employee populations, from executives to entry level professional roles as well as non-exempt field-based hourly roles.
Nice to Have
- Experience in high-growth, pre-IPO or recently public technology or tech-enabled service company a plus.
- Strong knowledge of private company equity, executive compensation trends, and corporate governance.
- A 'builder' mentality with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing organization.
- Direct experience taking a company through a significant scaling phase, IPO, or major funding round is strongly preferred.
- Workday experience specifically in Advanced Comp.
