Ashby is hiring a Head of Brand & Strategic Communications to own the company's strategic narrative, positioning, and messaging with a strong focus on government, defence, and institutional stakeholders. You will ensure all external communications support long-term business objectives in a rapidly evolving geopolitical and defence environment.
What You'll Do
- Define and maintain the company-wide messaging framework with a focus on defence & security applications, space critical infrastructure, sovereignty, resilience, and reliability.
- Translate geopolitical and defence policy developments into relevant communication narratives.
- Own the company's tone of voice and brand positioning across all external touchpoints.
- Support in engaging with key industrial and political circles.
- Act as strategic communications partner to CEO, Gov Affairs, BD, and senior leadership.
- Ensure alignment between comms & marketing, business development, product / technical teams and public affairs.
- Provide clear guidance and priorities to the communications (or MarCom) execution team.
- Shape high-level PR strategy and media positioning (defence, aerospace, policy).
- Drive executive thought leadership (op-eds, keynotes, panels).
- Own press activities, announcements, briefings, and ensure content calendars are aligned with strategic priorities.
- Oversee messaging for high-stakes announcements and partnerships.
- Ensure communications are appropriate for defence-sensitive and dual-use contexts.
- Review and approve externally facing materials for consistency and credibility.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in strategic communications, brand, or public affairs.
- Background in defence, aerospace, space, security policy, or government-facing industries and an extremely good radar on current affairs.
- Proven experience in B2G or institutional communications.
- Excellent writing and narrative-building skills in English.
- Strong stakeholder management skills at the executive level.
- High sensitivity to geopolitical, regulatory, and reputational risks.
Nice to Have
- Other European languages are a plus.
- Experience working at the interface with Ministries of Defence, space agencies, or prime contractors.
- Understanding of EU / NATO defence ecosystems.
- Previous work in a deep tech or dual-use environment.
