DICK’S Sporting Goods is seeking a Group Product Designer to lead and manage a team of Product Designers focused on the Store Sales & Service Technology portfolio. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering exceptional in-store and cross-channel experiences for Athletes and Teammates, while partnering with stakeholders to shape the in-store experience and mature the design practice.
What You'll Do
- Manage product designers, inclusive of performance, career planning, and growth/development opportunities.
- Identify and collaborate with stakeholders to improve business proficiency and influence others on the value of human-centered design.
- Coach and mentor product designers and cross-functional peers on design process, frameworks, implementation, and measurement.
- Guide discovery strategy for a group of products, including methodologies for evidence gathering, problem prioritization, and experimentation.
- Collaborate with leadership peers to identify new product opportunities and develop strategy across a group of products.
- Build partnerships with other teams (Athlete Insights, Data & Analytics, etc.) to expand capabilities and evidence gathering.
- Provide oversight in the creation of discovery objectives and goals.
- Participate in sprint planning to support research and design progress.
- Provide oversight and review for UI designs, utilizing the in-house design system, Homefield.
- Coach designers on customer-centric focus, gathering feedback, leveraging data, and measuring success.
- Demonstrate active participation and thought leadership in the broader design community.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years of Product Design experience or relevant experience
- Previous experience directly managing a team of Product Designers
- Ability to advocate for research and design-thinking practices across product teams
- Expert written and verbal communication skills
- Effective management, facilitation and collaboration skills
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams & senior leadership stakeholders without formal authority
- Ability to balance business objectives & customer needs
- Success in defining short- & long-term strategies, visions & launching excellent products
- Curious attitude and desire to learn
- Advanced level use of problem-solving frameworks (must be able to demonstrate)
- Understanding of software development lifecycle
- Ability to coach teammates on complex product frameworks, concepts or methodologies
- Can quickly and effectively resolve conflict
- Ability to cross-functionally organize, motivate and mobilize teams towards working on a common goal
- Portfolio of work, demonstrating a human-centered design process and design leadership
Nice to Have
- Experience within B2C companies (Retail) and/or experience delivering technology used within a physical environment
- Advanced understanding of Product Design
- Advanced knowledge and application of human-centered design practices and lean product management
- Advanced understanding of scrum
- Experience with service design methods that facilitate understanding frontstage and backstage touchpoints and processes
- Experience with journey maps, service blueprints, personas, and user flows
