About the Role

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is hiring a Group Exercise Instructor to join our team. Under the direction of our Executive, Wellness, or Program Director, you will deliver safe, effective, and physically appropriate group exercise classes for our members and community.

What You'll Do

  • Act professionally and adhere to all dress and policy requirements.
  • Arrive promptly for scheduled shifts, allowing adequate time for facility preparation.
  • Teach classes according to their designated format and description, starting and finishing on time.
  • Ensure all classes are safe and conducted within industry standards and guidelines.
  • Use only music suitable for a family-friendly setting.
  • Become familiar with class participants, learning names, health concerns, and physical limitations.
  • Maintain constant supervision of participants throughout each class.
  • Direct all maintenance concerns to the Executive/Wellness/Program Director immediately.
  • Ensure participants wear appropriate footwear for safety.
  • Properly put away all equipment following your shift.
  • Find and communicate substitutes for scheduled shifts in a timely manner.
  • Attend regularly scheduled, mandatory staff meetings.
  • Accurately utilize the time clock and monitor your timesheet.
  • Uphold all staff safety requirements, including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Successfully complete a State of Florida Criminal History Background Check and meet our Association’s screening policies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with high energy and a positive attitude.
  • Adherence to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications.
  • An appropriate, recognized fitness certification.
  • Completion of YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training annually.
  • Completion of YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Class annually.
  • One year or more of experience in the fitness field.
  • Ability to complete all staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols.
  • Employment is contingent on completing required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Team & Environment

You will report directly to the Executive, Wellness, or Program Director. We encourage you to participate in YMCA-sponsored special events and activities and to perform team assignments for our Annual Partner with Youth campaign.

Work Mode

This is an onsite position at our YMCA of Southwest Florida facilities.
