The University Writing Center at JMU seeks a Graduate Assistant to join its Leadership Team as a Digital Specialist. You will act as a peer educator, promoting and supporting the center’s digital projects while working directly with students, faculty, and staff to oversee daily operations.
What You'll Do
- Work up to 20 hours per week in a blend of writing consultation, administration, and project work.
- Promote and support digital projects, including the website, social media, and digital literacy training.
- Help coordinate and plan social media campaigns.
- Oversee undergraduate peer tutors’ work on digital projects.
- Develop and promote digitally-oriented initiatives.
- Assist in promoting digital, multimodal, and AI-connected writing.
- Conduct and/or present research for the UWC.
- Mentor undergraduate consultants.
- Facilitate workshops in classrooms.
- Work with UWC faculty to define projects and responsibilities.
What We're Looking For
- Conditional or unconditional acceptance into a JMU graduate program.
- An official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
- Ability to maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA to retain the assistantship.
- Interest and/or experience in tutoring, teaching, and/or mentorship.
- Interest in working with a collaborative, innovative, and enthusiastic team.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
- A responsible, proactive approach with excellent problem solving and task management skills.
- Interest and/or experience with writing conventions in your discipline and across the curriculum.
Nice to Have
- Interest and/or experience with digital literacy, technology-oriented projects, and ethical AI use.
- Interest in digital composition, instructional design, writing pedagogy, UX-informed resource creation, or technology-enhanced learning.
Team & Environment
You will be part of the Leadership Team with UWC faculty, overseeing daily operations and strategic planning, and will report directly to UWC faculty supervisors.
Work Mode
This is an onsite position located in Harrisonburg, VA.
