About the Role

The role involves using geospatial tools and data analysis to support conservation science, including developing maps, conducting spatial modeling, and translating ecological data into actionable insights for land and resource management.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze geographic data to identify conservation priorities
  • Develop detailed maps for ecological planning and reporting
  • Apply remote sensing techniques to monitor landscape changes
  • Build spatial models to predict environmental impacts
  • Collaborate with scientists on data interpretation
  • Support field teams with geospatial tools and resources
  • Maintain accurate geodatabases and metadata
  • Use GIS software to process large environmental datasets
  • Evaluate land use patterns and habitat fragmentation
  • Contribute to scientific publications and reports
  • Design interactive web-based mapping applications
  • Assess climate change effects using spatial analytics
  • Integrate satellite imagery into conservation planning
  • Support conservation planning at regional and national scales
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across projects
  • Participate in cross-disciplinary research teams
  • Translate technical findings for non-specialist audiences
  • Develop methods to improve data collection efficiency
  • Conduct quality assurance on spatial outputs
  • Stay current with advancements in geospatial technology
  • Support grant-funded research initiatives
  • Work with protected area management teams
  • Assist in monitoring biodiversity indicators
  • Utilize programming for automation of GIS tasks
  • Contribute to long-term ecological monitoring programs

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in geospatial science, ecology, or related field
  • Experience with machine learning in environmental applications
  • Proficiency in Google Earth Engine
  • Background in conservation planning software
  • Experience working with government or NGO partners
  • Knowledge of biodiversity assessment frameworks
  • Familiarity with climate resilience mapping
  • Experience in large-scale habitat restoration projects
  • Skill in 3D spatial analysis
  • Experience with drone-based data collection
