Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company (BHDIC) is seeking a General Liability Claims Representative to directly handle business owner liability claims. You will analyze complex coverage issues, manage both litigated and non-litigated claims, and perform routine adjusting functions with a focus on claims of moderate exposure.
What You'll Do
- Manage an active desk of general liability property damage and bodily injury claims under business owner policies.
- Analyze coverage issues under the Business owners coverage form, garagekeepers, hired non-owned auto, and other standard industry forms.
- Analyze, investigate, and evaluate new loss notices and claim tenders.
- Handle non-litigated claims efficiently and proactively.
- Handle litigated claims and actively coordinate and strategize with defense counsel.
- Expeditiously analyze and position claims under applicable coverage.
- Collaborate on setting reserves at an appropriate level.
- Use good judgment in managing ALAE during claims investigation.
- Appropriately document claim files according to established guidelines.
- Obtain and maintain adjuster licenses, as required.
What We're Looking For
- BA/BS degree required.
- 3+ years of prior general liability claims adjusting experience required.
- Experience with litigated liability claims required.
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multi-task effectively.
- Promptly responds to inquiries with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and internet applications.
- Highly attentive to details.
- Able to work under pressure and execute good judgment in sensitive situations.
Nice to Have
- CPCU or other industry designation a plus.
- State adjuster license(s) a plus.
