The New Republic is hiring a Front-End Developer who focuses on user needs and crafts elegant, polished designs to improve experience and interaction across all platforms. You will build editorial templates, manage third-party systems, and optimize for SEO.

What You'll Do

• Work with art, digital, and development leadership to launch and improve products while prioritizing feature requests and bugs.
• Execute ADA and WCAG compliant design guidelines for consistent user experiences.
• Collaborate with editorial and business departments to distill objectives into scoped, production-ready technical solutions for mobile, tablet, and desktop.
• Partner with business and legal stakeholders to implement front-end privacy controls and consent mechanisms.
• Define product goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and oversee the building process.
• Develop quality product prototypes.
• Partner closely with the lead developer on architecture, implementation, and code quality.
• Collaborate with the digital and development teams to produce designs with clean, performant, maintainable code.
• Keep tabs on best practices and trends in digital media to inform future projects.
• Communicate regularly with the product manager on project status, needs, and milestones.
• Implement and maintain analytics and tagging integrations like GTM and GA4.
• Contribute to daily code reviews.
• Document technical builds, fixes, and debugging on projects you lead or contribute to.

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience utilizing React and Javascript.
• 3+ years of experience with front-end development.
• Strong CSS skills, including modern SCSS with nesting and a component-based approach.
• Experience creating and optimizing mobile web applications.
• Experience optimizing for SEO.
• Experience improving performance and Core Web Vitals.
• Familiarity with analytical and diagnostic tools for web performance.
• Ability to communicate technical issues to a nontechnical staff.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment.
• Ability to handle multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously.
