Ocado Group is seeking a Field Service Engineer to create, deploy, and maintain advanced robotic systems for our customers. In this hands-on role, you will be a pivotal resource for resolving complex technical problems, traveling up to 75% to customer sites across the Mid-West and East Coast region.
What You'll Do
- Function as the primary contact for technicians resolving problems in the field.
- Use your background in automation to resolve unique and complex problems.
- Continuously mentor and develop the skills of coworkers to empower them in performing repairs.
- Manage onsite resources during repairs and deployments, including both contractors and Ocado employees.
- Participate in completion of hardware and software repairs and updates, including oversight of third party contractors.
- Devise and call out process improvements, propose detailed solutions, develop documentation and manage implementation of changes.
- Identify, research, diagnose, and troubleshoot solutions to resolve customer issues.
- Oversee updates to preventative maintenance schedules and repair procedures.
- Act as a resource for engineering, product, service and sales teams when required.
- Travel to potential customer sites to complete pre-deployment evaluations and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Travel to customer sites to complete and supervise either deployment or removal of hardware.
- Travel between customer sites to complete hardware and software updates as directed by the operations team.
- Travel to Kindred offices to assist in hardware project design and implementations.
What We're Looking For
- A BS or MS in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in a related industry such as industrial automation.
- Ability to independently perform complex repairs on both mobile and industrial robotic systems.
- Ability to de-escalate, communicate, and document customer requests.
- Experience supervising and training coworkers.
- Experience assisting with new robot bring-up and supervision of installations.
- Familiarity with industrial robot arms and autonomous vehicles (e.g., jogging a robot arm, setting parameters, diagnosing sensors).
- Familiarity with automation and industry safety standards.
- Ability to write and implement robotics preventative maintenance schedules and teach associated tasks to coworkers.
- Ability to document any processes required to deploy and maintain our systems.
- Able to interpret wiring diagrams, diagnose electrical problems, and write detailed reports.
Nice to Have
- Understanding and experience working with WMS and WES architectures.
- Experience working alongside Network and Software team members while completing project deliveries.
- Design and prototype electrical systems for both large and small-scale applications.
- Able to specify automation-grade electrical equipment.
- Able to create and maintain electrical schematics for electrical panels.
- Comfortable using a Command Line Interface.
- A passion for learning new skills and improving service quality.
- Excellent understanding of application and network stacks to assist in troubleshooting and diagnosis of issues.
Team & Environment
You will work closely with other disciplines including Sales, Software, Mechanical, and Electrical teams to maintain the fleet of robotic systems.
Work Mode
This role requires up to 75% travel to customer sites and is based locally within the Mid-West/East Coast region.
