Responsibilities
- Oversee planning and coordination of advanced exploration initiatives in Finland, including drilling, electromagnetic surveys, and initial field assessments.
- Manage 1–3 simultaneous projects of varying scale and complexity, ensuring effective planning and field execution.
- Lead procurement efforts, including contractor selection, bid analysis, benchmarking, and contract oversight for Finland-based operations.
- Develop comprehensive risk and hazard assessments with mitigation strategies, focusing on winter construction challenges in Nordic climates.
- Lead project initiation meetings with integrated teams and contractors, aligning on scope, execution approach, and risk controls.
- Collaborate on planning data collection efforts during the mid-phase of exploration projects.
- Design innovative field operation strategies that improve efficiency beyond traditional methods.
- Direct full-cycle project execution from mobilization to demobilization and closure.
- Provide decisive leadership during dynamic field conditions, including extreme Arctic and sub-Arctic weather.
- Monitor and forecast production output, budget utilization, and resource needs.
- Supervise all field activities and evaluate contractor performance, providing feedback and driving improvements.
- Maintain daily communication with field personnel and contractors; coordinate closely with geologists, data scientists, and planners.
- Lead environmental site restoration in compliance with Finnish regulatory requirements.
- Conduct post-project contractor evaluations and facilitate lessons-learned sessions to enhance future performance.
- Ensure all operations comply with Finnish mining and environmental laws, EU regulations, and joint venture standards.
- Operate within established permitting frameworks, land access agreements, community engagement protocols, and partnership obligations.
- Represent the organization with local stakeholders, including communities, landowners, municipalities, and environmental agencies, under leadership guidance.
- Develop agile operational practices that support adaptive, data-informed exploration programs driven by machine learning.
- Mentor field supervisors to uphold company systems, industry best practices, and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Minimum 12 years of field operations experience in mineral exploration, mining, oil and gas, or similar sectors, with increasing responsibility.
- In-depth knowledge of construction techniques in cold environments, including track building, pad development, and ice road construction.
- Expertise in helicopter-supported exploration, including logistics optimization and emergency planning.
- Solid understanding of procurement processes, including RFP creation, bid assessment, and contract management.
- Strong background in site rehabilitation and closure planning.
- Proven commitment to health, safety, and incident management, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Comprehensive awareness of HSE, land access, permitting, legal, and business development systems in exploration contexts.
- Ability to supervise staff and contractors across all phases of field operations, including high-risk activities.
- Capable of designing complex field programs with defined scope, cost estimates, risk analysis, and execution plans.
- Skilled in producing accurate, complete deliverables aligned with exploration project stages and communicating findings to teams and leadership.
- Experience working in remote Nordic locations, including Finnish Lapland, under isolated conditions.
- High level of autonomy and ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
- Fluency in both Finnish and English, spoken and written; additional languages are advantageous.
- Valid First Aid Certification, with Level 3 or Wilderness First Aid preferred.
Nice to Have
- Recognized as a subject matter expert in at least two field operation types, such as drilling, EM surveys, or civil construction.
- Understanding of data science tools like catchment analyses and their application in exploration planning.
- Familiarity with Finnish or Nordic regulatory requirements for exploration activities.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary exploration teams, including geologists and data scientists, in sustained, integrated roles.
- Knowledge of remote project management across multiple jurisdictions using standard project management principles.
- Experience managing logistics for complex cold-weather operations, including helicopters, weather contingencies, field camps, charters, and drilling.
- Proficiency in Swedish or other Nordic languages is beneficial.
