This role is responsible for leading the design and integration of non-core process systems in a commercial-scale Used Nuclear Fuel recycling facility. The engineer will develop comprehensive facility layouts, optimize workflows, and define infrastructure requirements to support safe, secure, and code-compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of architectural and engineering plans, including facility layouts, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), and 3D pipe routing
- Specify performance requirements for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, water, waste, and backup power systems
- Define instrumentation and control needs, including SCADA, DCS, sensors, and emergency shutdown systems
- Collaborate with external architecture and engineering firms to advance facility design
- Oversee the creation of construction-grade drawings and documentation
- Establish maintenance protocols and reliability standards for long-term operation
- Support regulatory submissions with technical documentation on system design and upkeep
- Manage design timelines, vendor coordination, and cross-disciplinary integration
Qualifications
Candidates should hold an engineering degree in mechanical, chemical, civil, or structural disciplines, with demonstrated experience in large-scale industrial or chemical processing facilities. Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools is required, along with a solid grasp of systems engineering principles and familiarity with balance-of-plant design practices.
Preferred qualifications include experience in nuclear environments, high-temperature systems, automated facilities, or pilot plant deployment. A Professional Engineer license or equivalent credential is a plus.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based in Santa Clara, CA. Flexible hours are supported, with remote team members expected to travel to headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding includes a two-week in-person period to ensure alignment with technical and cultural expectations.
Compensation & Benefits
