Societe Generale is looking for an Equity Finance Trading Trainee to join its Global Markets team in Tokyo. This trainee role provides analytical and technical support to the Equity Finance Trading desk. It is a non-trading, non-client facing position designed to build a strong foundation in workflows and analytics that underpin front-office trading functions.
What You'll Do
- Assist in daily workflow preparation and post-trade analysis for the Equity Finance desk, including Stock Loan, Total Return Swap (TRS), and financing-related processes.
- Provide analytical support to traders by preparing reports and dashboards.
- Monitor inventory-related data.
- Develop and maintain tools using Python and VBA to improve desk efficiency, automate manual processes, and enhance data quality.
- Utilize internal SG applications and ensure accuracy and integrity of data used by the desk.
- Optimize internal tools, workflows, and system interfaces.
- Build a deep understanding of Equity Finance business concepts: Stock Lending & Borrowing, Total Return Swaps, Collateral management and financing, and Inventory management.
- Identify opportunities to streamline or improve existing operational processes.
What We're Looking For
- Holders of a Bachelor or Master’s degree.
- Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python and VBA.
- Ability to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
- Basic understanding of Equity Finance products and trading lifecycle.
- Strong interest in stock loan, swaps, and equity financing markets.
- Motivation to deepen understanding of front-office trading operations.
- Excellent analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities.
- High level of curiosity and willingness to learn complex concepts.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with traders and support teams.

- Experience with databases (SQL).
