What You'll Do
- Support planning applications by managing environmental inputs, compliance documentation, and statutory requirements, including post-approval conditions.
- Lead or assist in producing key technical reports such as Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR), Screening Assessments, and Natura Impact Statements (NIS) or Appropriate Assessments (AA).
- Prepare assessments under the Water Framework Directive, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) processes.
- Develop Sustainability Reports, Environmental Resource Management Plans, and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP).
- Conduct Carbon Assessments and advise on low-carbon design and climate resilience strategies.
- Ensure project documentation aligns with current legislation, policy, and regulatory expectations, providing technical guidance across teams.
- Review environmental reports, technical studies, and design outputs for accuracy, consistency, and defensible assumptions.
- Engage with planning authorities, statutory bodies, and stakeholders on environmental requirements, including consultation responses and reporting.
- Present technical findings clearly during public consultations and pre-application meetings using evidence-based analysis.
- Collaborate with planners, engineers, designers, and external consultants to integrate mitigation measures and ensure cross-functional alignment.
- Identify environmental risks and opportunities for improvement, including resource efficiency, biodiversity enhancement, and carbon reduction.
- Monitor ecological survey timelines, seasonal constraints, and regulatory dependencies that affect project scheduling.
- Ensure environmental conditions are embedded throughout project phases, from concept to delivery.
- Define scopes for ecological and environmental surveys and support consultant procurement and deliverable management.
- Maintain rigorous document control, version tracking, and audit-ready records of environmental decisions.
- Track evolving Irish and EU environmental regulations, policy updates, and case law to inform internal practices.
- Support policy submissions and collaborate with sustainability teams to align initiatives and avoid duplication.
- Help develop standardized tools, templates, and training materials to improve consistency and efficiency in environmental planning processes.
Requirements
Expertise in environmental assessment methodologies including EIA, SEA, NIS/AA, EcIA, Water Framework Directive compliance, carbon accounting, and sustainability reporting is essential. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working within the Irish planning and regulatory environment are required. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to interpret technical data, communicate complex issues clearly, and work effectively across disciplines.
