Kiewit Corporation is looking for an Environmental Specialist to lead and oversee environmental management practices for our construction operations in Quebec City, Quebec. In this role, you will ensure compliance with all legal and contractual environmental requirements while advancing our commitment to corporate social responsibility.
What You'll Do
- Lead environmental compliance for a project or district.
- Identify, assess, and reduce environmental risks to the company.
- Develop and update environmental plans.
- Perform and supervise field inspections and monitoring (e.g., water quality, underwater noise).
- Identify wetlands and sensitive environmental areas to protect and fence them before construction.
- Maintain project data monitoring requirements.
- Monitor, forecast, and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
- Develop and deliver environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels.
- Act as the main technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues.
- Coordinate with concerned teams on their worksites, material needs, quantities, and invoices.
- Interpret and apply environmental specifications and plans to avoid and minimize adverse effects.
- Identify, document, report, and develop corrective measures for environmental incidents.
- Participate in internal and external project audits.
- Prepare required reports and communicate environmental risks to project management.
- Serve as a liaison with environmental agencies and participate in field visits with clients and regulators.
- Serve as a liaison with clients, providing design information, schedule details, and communicating unforeseen discoveries or compliance issues.
- Review requirements and prepare proposals and estimates for new contracts.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science or engineering, or a related field.
- Over 5 years of experience managing environmental compliance during the design and construction of major construction projects.
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
- Highly motivated and able to manage work autonomously to get things right the first time.
- Effective and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
