n8n is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and develop a high-performing engineering team in a fast-moving AI-native environment. In this first-line leadership role, you'll empower engineers, align stakeholders, and drive meaningful technical outcomes while fostering a culture of trust, growth, and execution.

What You'll Do

• Build and lead an empowered, high-performing engineering team
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers in ownership, performance, and long-term career growth
• Create a high-trust environment where engineers can learn in action and make confident decisions
• Support hiring, onboarding, and shaping the engineering team as n8n scales
• Help the team stay focused and effective as priorities and opportunities evolve
• Communicate clearly and credibly through change, providing context and direction
• Turn complexity into momentum by helping the team focus on what matters most
• Partner with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align on priorities and trade-offs
• Bring the right level of structure to the team—using process where helpful and keeping things lightweight otherwise
• Keep the team accountable to meaningful outcomes while balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
• Mentor engineers and maintain a high bar for engineering quality
• Support architectural and delivery decisions with sound trade-offs around scalability, reliability, and speed
• Step into technical details or code when needed to unblock or support the team
• Maintain primary focus on people leadership and team effectiveness

What We're Looking For

• First-line engineering management experience: At least 2 years directly leading engineers in a growing product organization
• Experience leading teams that shipped meaningful product or platform outcomes
• Ability to balance execution, quality, and team health
• Strong people leadership: Coaching, giving clear feedback, supporting career growth, handling hard conversations with empathy, honesty, and accountability
• Composure in fast-moving environments: Helping teams stay focused, confident, and effective amid evolving priorities
• Bringing optimism, sound judgment, and a clear path forward during rapid change
• Hands-on experience as a software engineer with a strong software engineering background
• Ability to confidently mentor engineers, contribute to system and architecture discussions, and assess technical trade-offs
• Comfortable being hands-on when needed: Can go deep into technical details or code to unblock, challenge, or support the team
• Primary focus remains on people leadership and team effectiveness, not being on the critical path
• Cross-functional alignment: Experience collaborating with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align perspectives into a clear path forward
• High-growth SaaS experience: Worked in a high-growth SaaS company, building strong teams and scaling with intention

Nice to Have

• TypeScript / Node.js familiarity: Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, enabling quick context-building in n8n's stack
• Open-source or developer tooling interest: Excitement about technical products, builder communities, and challenges of extensible software and automation
• AI product exposure: Experience working near AI-native products, AI features, or teams exploring how AI is changing product experiences and engineering execution
