Lead with trust, stay close to the code, and grow engineers to their full potential. We’re seeking an Engineering Manager based in Europe to help shape a high-autonomy engineering environment where engineers take full ownership of their work—from concept through delivery. In this role, you’ll focus on people, culture, and systems, not process enforcement or product direction.
What You’ll Do
- Build and guide a growing team of engineers, emphasizing personal growth, technical depth, and ownership
- Observe, mentor, and collaborate closely—providing timely feedback, recognizing strong work, and coding alongside the team
- Help engineers refine technical and product thinking, identifying opportunities to simplify scope or elevate quality
- Coach individuals to confidently lead complex, open-ended projects with minimal oversight
- Stay hands-on: debug critical issues, contribute small fixes, or improve internal tooling and developer workflows
- Enhance systems for data generation and simulation in demo environments
- Support engineers who lead projects end-to-end, from user conversations to design and implementation
- Drive change through empathetic communication, influencing both individuals and broader team practices
- Design automation and systems that increase team leverage without growing headcount
- Ensure engineers aren’t bottlenecks while maintaining strong technical engagement
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine passion for both engineering and leadership—someone who enjoys deep technical discussions across backend, frontend, and infrastructure
- Experience guiding engineers to make strong decisions independently, not just following direction
- Strong communication skills with the ability to navigate differing perspectives and experiences with empathy
- High standards—you give thoughtful feedback, even to top performers, and hold the team to a high bar
- A mindset aligned with high-trust environments: you believe engineers can own product decisions and thrive without rigid processes
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving startup with evolving priorities and multiple responsibilities
- Optimism about what engineering teams can achieve when given autonomy and support
Technical Environment
Our stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis. We invest heavily in developer experience, reusable components, and tooling that reduces friction.
How We Support You
- Competitive salary and equity with a 10-year exercise window for stock options
- Unlimited paid time off, with a recommended four weeks per year
- Generous budget for equipment, software, and ergonomic office setups
- Monthly education stipend, plus support for conferences and larger learning investments
- No algorithmic coding puzzles—we focus on real engineering skills
- Comprehensive paid family leave
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring and day-to-day culture
Work Environment
This role is based in Europe with high autonomy and deep work prioritized. We protect focus time intentionally—engineers are expected to have 36 hours of uninterrupted work weekly. Collaboration is lightweight and primarily written, enabling clarity and inclusivity across time zones.
Leadership Philosophy
Managers stay technically engaged while empowering teams to operate independently. We believe leadership means removing obstacles, growing talent, and building systems that scale impact—not making every decision. You’ll help create an environment where engineers drive outcomes, own their projects, and evolve into stronger technologists and problem-solvers.
