Lead Engineering Excellence in a High-Growth Environment
As an Engineering Manager, you will guide backend teams in Lisbon, taking ownership of multiple product deliveries and shaping the technical direction of scalable, high-load systems. Your leadership will be central to advancing platform architecture, improving engineering practices, and fostering team growth within a fast-moving, results-driven culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end delivery of critical products, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical feasibility.
- Recruit, onboard, and develop engineering talent, supporting career progression and team cohesion.
- Coach team leads and senior engineers through structured one-on-ones, performance reviews, and personalized development plans.
- Facilitate agile workflows, including Scrum or Kanban ceremonies, to maintain rhythm and accountability across teams.
- Identify and address technical debt, system bottlenecks, and architectural limitations to improve long-term reliability.
- Balance team capacity and workloads to promote sustainable delivery and prevent burnout.
- Champion engineering best practices, including CI/CD, secure coding, and test-driven development, across the organization.
- Define and enforce standards for code quality, documentation, and system design across domains.
- Lead cross-team initiatives that elevate the engineering organization’s capabilities and technical maturity.
- Drive adoption of modern tools and infrastructure, including cloud-native technologies and distributed systems.
What You Bring
- Advanced degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years in backend development with deep experience in scalable systems.
- At least 5 years leading engineering teams, including managing leads and senior engineers.
- Proven expertise with Kubernetes, containerization, cloud infrastructure, microservices, and distributed architectures.
- Strong command of SQL and NoSQL databases, RESTful APIs, message brokers, and third-party integrations.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, secure development lifecycle, and agile methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills with a focus on mentorship and feedback.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Experience with Node.js is a plus.
