Redwood Materials is looking for an Energy Economics Intern to join the Redwood Energy team. You will support our growing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project pipeline, focusing on both advancing projects and building internal software tools. This role sits at the intersection of project management and software development.
What You'll Do
- Track and advance utility-scale BESS projects through the development pipeline, coordinating with landowners, developers, permitting agencies, utilities, and engineering consultants to maintain schedule and resolve open items.
- Support due diligence and project evaluation processes, including data room review, site visit preparation, technical screening, and preparation of summary materials for internal review.
- Maintain project tracking systems and development milestone schedules across the active project portfolio.
- Develop sales and sales engineering tools to support commercial pipeline management, project sizing, and customer-facing technical documentation.
- Build tooling to support the transition of projects from development into ERCOT market participation, including workflows for QSE onboarding, ERCOT registration, commissioning testing coordination, and initial bid/offer setup.
What We're Looking For
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages, with experience building scripts, tools, or applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear summaries.
- Comfortable in a startup environment, independent, motivated, self-starter.
- A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place.
- Ability to perform office work for extended periods, including use of a computer and telephone.
- Ability to travel to project sites, which may include outdoor environments with exposure to variable weather conditions and uneven terrain.
Nice to Have
- Graduate student preferred.
- Familiarity with electricity markets, grid operations, Investment Tax Credit (ITC) structuring and related incentive programs.
