The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring for two Eligibility Worker (Human Services Specialist 3) vacancies requiring Vietnamese/English bilingual skills. In this role, you will determine eligibility for Oregon’s medical, food, cash, and childcare benefits programs through interviews and application of policies. You will provide person-centered, trauma-informed services to Oregon’s vulnerable community members.
What You'll Do
- Interview applicants to gather and assess information for benefits programs such as SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and Domestic Violence services.
- Perform eligibility determinations, redeterminations, and periodic reviews.
- Conduct interviews over the phone with applicants applying for benefits.
- Communicate eligibility decisions to applicants.
- Provide person-centered services with a trauma-informed approach to identify needs.
- Be responsible for accurate and timely eligibility determinations.
- Create a work environment where everyone feels welcomed, appreciated and valued.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing education of cultural awareness.
What We're Looking For
- Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program by interviewing to assess client needs and interpreting/applying policies, rules, and guidelines.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.
- Must be bilingual in Vietnamese and English (contingent on passing proficiency tests).
- Experience conducting work that requires attention to detail, particularly with data entry and reviewing documents.
- Experience adapting communication style to explain complex information verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
- Experience using time management, organization, and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
- Experience providing customer service that is person centered and trauma informed.
- Experience with technical skills that include basic computer and search engine knowledge, email communication and learning new web-based platforms.
- Experience developing meaningful relationships that foster trust, inclusivity, and respect.
- A cover letter (limit: 2 pages or less) describing how you meet the essential attributes is required.

- Compensation: $4,023.00 - $5,575.00 monthly.
- 5% bilingual differential pay upon passing proficiency test(s).
