Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring an Eligibility Worker (Human Services Specialist 3) – two (2) Russian/English bilingual required vacancies!

About the Role

Join the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) as a bilingual Eligibility Worker (Human Services Specialist 3). You will be part of the Oregon Eligibility Partnership (OEP) program, determining eligibility for Oregonians applying for medical, food, cash, and childcare benefits through a person-centered, trauma-informed approach.

What You'll Do

  • Interview applicants to gather and assess information for benefits such as Domestic Violence services, SNAP, Long Term Care, TANF, ERDC, and Medicaid.
  • Perform eligibility determinations, redeterminations, and periodic reviews.
  • Conduct interviews over the phone with applicants applying for benefits.
  • Communicate eligibility decisions to applicants.
  • Provide person-centered services with a trauma-informed approach to identify needs.
  • Be responsible for accurate and timely eligibility determinations.
  • Create a work environment where everyone feels welcomed, appreciated and valued.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and ongoing education of cultural awareness.

What We're Looking For

  • Two years of experience determining eligibility for an agency program by interviewing to assess client needs and interpreting/applying policies, rules, and guidelines.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience relative to the class concept.
  • Must be bilingual in Russian and English (job offer contingent on passing proficiency tests).
  • Experience conducting work that requires attention to detail, particularly with data entry and reviewing documents.
  • Experience adapting communication style to explain complex information verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
  • Experience using time management, organization, and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Experience providing customer service that is person centered and trauma informed.
  • Experience with technical skills that include basic computer and search engine knowledge, email communication and learning new web-based platforms.
  • Experience developing meaningful relationships that foster trust, inclusivity, and respect.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Monthly salary of $4,023.00 - $5,575.00.
  • 5% bilingual differential pay upon passing proficiency test.
