Black & Veatch is looking for an Electrician Helper to join our team in Monticello, Florida. You will assist journeyman electricians in the planning, lay-out, installation, testing, and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment, and control systems, ensuring all work meets applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
What You'll Do
- Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools to assist with measuring, cutting, bending, pulling wiring, and fastening objects.
- Perform minor repairs like replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
- Maintain tools and equipment; disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective electrical equipment.
- Load, transport, and furnish electricians with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Clean work areas and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
- Help install all other related items per applicable plans and specifications.
- Participate in all safety processes and programs, use stop work authority, and engage to ensure zero injuries.
- Report all accidents and near misses; participate in investigations as needed.
- Participate in pre-job work planning and safety discussions; identify hazards and take corrective action.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag out procedures; attend site-specific training.
- Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills; coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
- Produce quality work meeting the requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including one line diagrams, cable schedules, and ladder diagrams.
- With guidance, assist in planning, lay-out, diagram, installing, and/or repairing wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
- Learn to observe functioning of installed equipment to determine hazards and need for adjustments.
- Examine field conditions, identify problems and cost-saving measures, and take corrective actions.
- If certified, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and that Daily Equipment Inspections are completed.
- Comply with the Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 years of experience as an electrician helper or similar craft, or a combination of work experience and training.
- A working knowledge of the electrical craft.
- Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation, or maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Experience testing electrical systems with appropriate tools.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- If applicable, must have all necessary licenses for the work jurisdiction.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Must have all necessary tools per the Electrician helper tool list.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected), which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
Nice to Have
- NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program.
