AECOM is hiring an Electrical Technical Director

About the Role

Lead the future of building services engineering by shaping the technical direction of electrical design across critical infrastructure sectors. In this role, you will guide the development and execution of electrical systems for complex healthcare, education, and school projects, ensuring designs meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the electrical engineering function, providing authoritative oversight on LV/HV distribution, lighting, fire detection, emergency power, security, ICT, and building automation systems
  • Ensure all designs comply with sector-specific regulations, including HTMs, HBNs, and NHS requirements, particularly in healthcare environments
  • Lead technical assurance activities, reviewing and approving documentation, specifications, and reports across all RIBA stages
  • Drive innovation by integrating low-carbon technologies and sustainable design practices into building services solutions
  • Collaborate with mechanical, public health, digital, and sustainability teams to deliver fully coordinated, integrated designs
  • Serve as the principal technical contact for clients, consultants, and contractors, providing expert insight and building trusted relationships
  • Support business development through bid contributions, technical presentations, and client engagement
  • Mentor and develop electrical engineers, contributing to recruitment, performance management, and long-term team capability
  • Enforce quality assurance and governance processes to maintain compliance with internal and industry standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership in electrical engineering within the building services sector
  • Extensive experience delivering electrical designs for complex, mission-critical facilities
  • Strong command of healthcare and education sector standards and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to manage technical delivery from concept through construction
  • Experience reviewing and signing off technical documentation with authority
  • Track record of successful collaboration in multidisciplinary environments
  • Client-facing expertise with a focus on relationship development and technical credibility
  • Background in team leadership, resource planning, and performance development
  • Commitment to quality, compliance, and continuous improvement in engineering practice
