West Virginia University Hospitals (WVUH) is hiring a Medical Dosimetrist to join our radiation oncology team. In this remote role, you will apply your specialized expertise in cancer, radiation biology, and physics to design precise radiation therapy treatment plans. Your work is essential for communicating effective plans to Radiation Oncologists and Radiation Therapists.
What You'll Do
- Assemble patient data and contour normal and dose-limiting structures utilizing images from one or more data sets.
- Design treatment plans via computer or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver prescribed radiation doses and spare critical structures.
- Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery.
- Supervise or assist in simulations and tumor localization using imaging devices including CT, MRI, and PET.
- Supervise, perform, or assist in planning and fabricating compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam-modifying devices.
- Supervise, perform, or assist in planning and producing molds, casts, and other immobilization devices.
- Communicate with radiation therapists and advise on the implementation of the treatment plan.
- Develop optimal treatment strategies leading to attainable radiation therapy plans.
- Maintain accurate evaluation of information generated from radiation treatment plans.
- Perform dose delivery calculations, document all pertinent information, and verify mathematical accuracy.
- Maintain accurate transfer and documentation of treatment parameters.
- Provide technical support to the Medical Physicist in radiation safety, machine calibrations, and quality assurance.
- Operate and perform quality assurance on treatment planning computers.
- Supervise, perform, or assist in applying specific methods of patient and/or beam dosimetry.
- Assist in brachytherapy procedures by performing treatment planning and dose calculations.
- Participate in quality improvement processes by performing periodic checks.
What We're Looking For
- Must be board eligible for the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) exam OR have 20 years of continuous experience as a Medical Dosimetrist.
- West Virginia state criminal background check is required, and a Federal check if applicable for DHHR BMS regulated areas.
Nice to Have
- Current certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB).
- Completion of a formal medical dosimetry program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Three (3) years of medical dosimetry experience.
- Experience with Varian Eclipse and ARIA.
- Pinnacle experience.
