About the Role
The counselor will provide direct support to individuals affected by domestic violence, offering counseling, resource referrals, and advocacy in both one-on-one and group settings.
Responsibilities
- Deliver immediate crisis intervention to individuals experiencing domestic violence
- Conduct individual counseling sessions using trauma-informed practices
- Develop personalized safety plans for clients at risk
- Facilitate support groups for survivors of abuse
- Assist clients in understanding legal options and court processes
- Accompany clients to court or law enforcement meetings when needed
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records
- Collaborate with community agencies to coordinate services
- Provide psychoeducation on domestic violence dynamics
- Respond to crisis hotline calls during scheduled shifts
- Assess client needs through structured intake interviews
- Refer clients to housing, medical, and mental health services
- Advocate for clients within legal and social service systems
- Participate in case conferences and care planning
- Engage in ongoing professional development and training
- Follow agency protocols for documentation and reporting
- Uphold client confidentiality in accordance with legal standards
- Support clients in developing healthy relationship skills
- Monitor client progress and adjust service plans as needed
- Assist in program evaluation and data collection efforts
