Monks is hiring a Director, SEM to provide strategic oversight and drive growth across our paid search department. In this hands-on leadership role, you will focus on our largest accounts, collaborating cross-functionally to deliver strong client performance and ROI.
What You'll Do
- Serve as the Paid Search Lead on one or more of the agency's larger search accounts, delivering strategy and hands-on optimizations.
- Own Paid Search strategy for multiple accounts and present it to client stakeholders.
- Use storytelling to simplify complex search strategies into clear campaign recommendations.
- Partner with cross-channel leads to create holistic media plans, including forecasting and reporting.
- Translate insights into performance changes and direct optimizations.
- Define roles and responsibilities for client Paid Search teams and delegate work.
- Manage pacing across your book of business to ensure campaigns meet spend targets.
- Drive Paid Search strategy, innovation, and testing while developing quarterly/annual roadmaps.
- Manage others, from Account Managers to Associate Directors.
- Mentor your team in advanced SEM skills, multi-channel strategy, and client management.
- Deliver feedback, performance reviews, and support to achieve team goals.
- Act as a senior sponsor on accounts, developing senior client relationships and guiding holistic digital strategy.
- Join in-person meetings and client presentations as needed, estimated 1-2 times per quarter.
- Work closely with vendor partners like Google and Bing on strategy, testing, and account health.
- Contribute to department trainings, POVs, award submissions, and case studies.
- Participate in new business pitches and conduct audits across the Google ecosystem.
- Generate and oversee strong revenue growth from client renewals.
- Participate in onboardings, renewal calls, and key client communications.
- Develop a detailed understanding of clients' products, industry, and marketing goals.
- Analyze performance data and KPIs.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of Paid Search experience.
- Passion and willingness to embrace Automation and AI.
- Comfort with script adoption and using AI for reporting, insights, and presentation visuals.
- Openness to testing AI-driven workflows to optimize output and create efficiencies.
- A strong point of view on the future of search and the role of AI/automation.
- Experience handling direct management of Paid Search budgets of at least $1MM in monthly ad spend.
- Experience directing strategy for B2B Lead Generation clients.
- Experience with YouTube, App Campaigns, Performance Max, Demand Gen, in addition to traditional paid search and shopping.
- Advanced slide presentation skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel and Google Sheet skills.
- Strong, persuasive communication skills for discussing performance with clients and teams.
- Ability to work collaboratively across large teams.
- Experience presenting paid search strategy to marketing executives and senior audiences (VP+).
- 3+ years of management experience with at least two direct reports.
- 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience.

- Experience managing multiple lines of business.
- Experience with a bid management platform such as SA360, Skai, or Marin.
