Lead the strategic direction of domestic transportation across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, ensuring seamless, cost-efficient movement of goods that supports customer delivery goals and channel demands. This role is central to shaping and executing a scalable, resilient freight network across truckload, less-than-truckload, and parcel operations.
Strategic Leadership & Network Optimization
Drive mode selection and network design to reduce cost-to-serve without compromising service levels. Align transportation planning with inventory positioning, distribution center operations, and demand forecasts to support on-time delivery and order fulfillment targets. Guide network changes in response to shifting volume patterns, customer requirements, and channel evolution.
Operations & Compliance Excellence
Establish and enforce freight governance policies, including routing compliance, prepaid and collect execution standards, and chargeback prevention. Minimize freight leakage and accessorial exposure through disciplined carrier management and audit accuracy. Ensure full adherence to customer-specific routing instructions, particularly for collect shipments.
Technology & Data Management
Own the Transportation Management System (TMS) operating model—overseeing configuration, reporting, compliance, and user adoption. Leverage analytics to improve tender acceptance, shipment visibility, and exception handling. Partner with IT and external providers to enhance automation and data integrity.
Carrier & 3PL Governance
Serve as executive lead for the transportation 3PL relationship, setting performance expectations and managing service scorecards, escalations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Lead RFPs, contract negotiations, and carrier selection in collaboration with Procurement. Maintain robust performance tracking across on-time performance, claims, and cost control.
Financial Accountability
Own the domestic transportation budget and multi-year cost strategy. Deliver against freight-out savings targets and ensure accurate accruals and reporting in partnership with Finance. Lead corrective actions for cost variances and conduct root-cause analyses for service failures or unplanned expenses.
Team & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Lead and develop a high-performing transportation team, whether direct or matrixed
- Partner with Distribution, Customer Service, Sales, Finance, and IT to align logistics with broader business goals
- Champion a "One Team" culture across internal functions and external partners
- Influence stakeholders across a complex, global organization without direct authority
- Ensure peak season readiness and secure capacity across all regions and modes
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field, and at least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation or supply chain, ideally within consumer goods or retail. Must have hands-on expertise in domestic freight operations, 3PL management, TMS platforms, and financial performance tracking. Experience with prepaid and collect freight models, along with deep knowledge of TL, LTL, and parcel networks, is essential. Strategic thinking, analytical rigor, and strong communication skills are critical for success.
Preferred Background
An MBA or professional certification such as CSCP, CTL, or Lean Six Sigma is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of driving results through change and holding partners accountable in fast-paced environments.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Stamford, requiring in-office presence Monday through Thursday, with flexibility to work remotely on Fridays.
