About the Role
This position leads the organization's employment law function, delivering strategic guidance on compliance, disputes, and policy development while supporting HR and business leaders in maintaining lawful and equitable workplace practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead employment law strategy and compliance initiatives across all levels of the organization.
- Advise HR and business leaders on workforce regulations, disciplinary actions, and termination protocols.
- Oversee development and implementation of employee policies and workplace standards.
- Manage litigation risks related to employment disputes, investigations, and regulatory audits.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, including wage and hour regulations.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring activities with employment law expertise.
- Collaborate on workplace accommodations, leave management, and disability compliance.
- Guide responses to government agency inquiries, including DOL and EEOC matters.
- Develop training programs for managers on anti-harassment, discrimination, and labor law updates.
- Monitor evolving employment laws and recommend proactive legal adjustments.
- Partner with external counsel on complex litigation and class action matters.
- Maintain documentation standards for personnel files and legal correspondence.
- Assist in union-related issues, including collective bargaining and NLRB compliance.
- Evaluate independent contractor classifications and vendor workforce arrangements.
- Support global employment law issues where applicable, coordinating with international teams.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and OSHA-related requirements.
- Advocate for fair and consistent application of employment practices across locations.
- Lead internal investigations into employee complaints and misconduct allegations.
- Provide legal input on remote work policies and cross-jurisdictional employment challenges.
- Contribute to executive compensation and severance agreement frameworks.
- Promote a culture of legal awareness and ethical decision-making within HR functions.
- Track legal trends in gig economy regulations and contingent workforce models.
- Assist in drafting and updating employee handbooks and policy manuals.
- Evaluate compliance with equal employment opportunity and affirmative action standards.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives through legally sound practices.
