HHS is hiring a Dietary Utility Assistant

Position Overview

As a Dietary Utility Assistant, you play a key role in maintaining sanitary and orderly food service environments within a healthcare facility. Your responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, managing deliveries, and supporting daily operations to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly clean pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using proper sanitation procedures
  • Set up and maintain dishwashing stations, including three-compartment sinks and mechanical dish machines
  • Receive and organize incoming food and supply deliveries, labeling and dating all items appropriately
  • Break down packaging, stock shelves, and assist with inventory organization in storerooms
  • Keep floors clean by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and spot-treating high-traffic areas
  • Monitor and refill soap and towel dispensers throughout shifts
  • Empty and maintain trash and recycling containers
  • Ensure kitchen, dining, and storage areas meet health and safety compliance standards
  • Support team members with various tasks to promote smooth departmental operations

Qualifications

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to communicate clearly in English. Personal hygiene and professional appearance are essential. The role requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 40 pounds, and operating cleaning and kitchen equipment safely.

Background checks, drug screening, and proof of work authorization are required prior to employment.

Prior experience in culinary, food service, housekeeping, or janitorial roles—especially in healthcare, hospitality, or commercial kitchens—is preferred.

This is an onsite position located at a rehabilitation hospital with day and evening shift options. The setting is team-focused, compassionate, and committed to both patient care and employee well-being.
