Duke University is hiring a Development Associate to join the Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) team. In this role, you will initiate and assist with cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies aligned with DCI priorities, working collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President and the Duke Cancer Development team. You'll be part of an inclusive, interdisciplinary community of outstanding learners, investigators, and staff.
What You'll Do
- Oversee Duke Cancer prospect meetings and coordinate the portfolio work of the Assistant Vice President and DCI Major Gift Officers.
- Thoroughly review prospect files and research constituents to develop briefing materials, talking points, and other supporting information for visits.
- Provide and monitor visit follow-up and stewardship actions through correspondence and tailored reports.
- Draft correspondence for senior leaders, including letters and emails acknowledging gifts and commitments.
- Develop documents seeking financial support, including overseeing the creation and review of formal proposals and letters.
- Provide administrative support and serve as the communications lead for the DCI Board of Advisors, managing rosters, calendars, and creating newsletters and agendas.
- Coordinate portfolio administration for the DCI Board of Advisors.
- Assist in the execution of cultivation and stewardship events in collaboration with DHDAA colleagues.
- Delegate tasks to the Administrative Assistant supporting the Assistant Vice President.
- Enter donor activity into DADD, Sales Force, and Smartsheet and monitor the DCI website for necessary updates.
What We're Looking For
- A Bachelor's degree.
- Two (2) years of project coordination experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, complex fundraising project activities while participating in solicitation and stewardship strategy coordination.
- Basic project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals diplomatically and professionally.
- Flexibility to work independently as well as collaboratively with senior-level management and others to achieve defined goals.
- Good judgment and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents.
- Demonstrated initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines.
