LawnStarter is hiring a Design Director to lead the path to a 5-star customer experience by setting vision and processes for user research, branding, and product design. This high-autonomy role involves strategic decision-making, people management, and operational work with a small team, driving results with exposure to the entire leadership team.
What You'll Do
- Set the vision and processes for user research, branding, and product design.
- Lead and develop a team of 4 designers, navigating between strategic decision making, people management, and operational work.
- Improve customer experience by collaborating to ensure great solutions to the right problems.
- Prioritize and solve challenges like establishing design as a value driver across UI, service, and incentives design.
- Set a high bar for user experience and ensure every designer and initiative hits that bar while moving fast.
- Systematize learning about customers and pros, ensuring interviews, surveys, and research methods use best practices.
- Manage a multi-brand strategy (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, HomeGnome) to ensure alignment between marketing, presentation, and delivery for each brand.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in design at technology companies.
- At least a few years of leadership experience.
- Ready to lead and develop exceptional people, creating an environment of intellectual honesty and trust.
- Learning mindset: take pride in understanding problems deeply and asking the right questions, absorbing topics with ease.
- Set extremely high standards for yourself and others, with a track record of impressive performance.
- Care deeply about understanding the user, using a mix of user research techniques.
- Bias for action: not perfectionist, enjoy being scrappy, and thrive with constraints.
