About the Role

UN Women is seeking a Deputy Regional Security and Safety Specialist to be based in Bangkok, Thailand. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of UN Women Security and Safety services across the Asia and Pacific and Arab States regions. Reporting to the Global Security Advisor and Regional Security and Safety Specialist, you will advise and support offices and personnel on security and safety responsibilities to minimize risk and enable effective programme delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Provide timely security and safety advice to Country, Multi-Country, and Regional Offices.
  • Clarify, interpret, and implement existing UN and UN Women security and safety policy.
  • Oversee security evaluations and advise on security measures for residences and personnel safety threats.
  • Track developing threats and risks, reviewing their impact on personnel, premises, assets, and programme delivery.
  • Provide recommendations for risk prevention and mitigation measures.
  • Provide security surge support outside the designated Duty Station and remote security support as required.
  • Advise and support UN Women Security Focal Points with online security assessments and compliance systems.
  • Oversee substantive assessment of the security situation at duty stations and collate security information.
  • Conduct security assessments of UN Women premises and equipment.
  • Liaise and coordinate with host government security organizations, military, police, NGOs, and UN entities.
  • Participate as a member of security groups, particularly IASMN Working Groups.
  • Provide an advisory presence at UN security management meetings.
  • Maintain a security network of international and national personnel.
  • Represent UN Women at security meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Disseminate security information, measures, and analytical products to personnel.
  • Establish a UN Women Warden Systems/Communication Trees where applicable.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the UN Women Security Plan.
  • Provide advice on the selection and purchasing of security and safety equipment.
  • Prepare and submit security clearance/movement of personnel requests.
  • Compile data required for the Security Risk Management Measures Self-Assessment and Security and Safety Compliance Survey.
  • Implement SRMM for UN Women personnel, premises, assets, and systems.
  • Collate information and provide inputs to security reports like SSIRS and SRM Assessments.
  • Develop accurate and timely written country briefings and inputs to position papers.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of UNSMS training.
  • Develop and deliver UN Women-specific security and safety training and orientation.
  • Provide Business Continuity Planning and Occupational Health and Safety training sessions as required.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to provide security briefings to UN Women Representatives and Heads of Offices.
  • Oversee the security and safety bi-annual work plan and related budget; initiate budget revisions.
  • Prepare security budgets and UN Women SSCEF funding requests.
  • Provide substantive security inputs to UN Women budgets and programme appraisal bodies.
  • Monitor and support allotted Security and Safety Compliance funds.
  • Provide Air Travel Focal Point services as per CATSU requirements.
  • Maintain liaison with commercial security companies to ensure effective use of guard forces.

Team & Environment

You will work closely with the region’s Security Specialist, Local Security Associates, and country offices, reporting to the UN Women Global Security Advisor through the Regional Security and Safety Specialist.

This is a local-country position based in Bangkok, Thailand.
