KBR Services, LLC is hiring a Database Engineer (RDS PostgreSQL & OpenSearch)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deploy scalable, highly available database solutions using Amazon RDS with PostgreSQL and OpenSearch.
  • Design efficient schemas, indexing approaches, and data models to enhance query speed and reduce storage costs.
  • Assess and suggest tools, methods, and industry standards for data pipelines, ingestion workflows, search indexing, and replication processes.
  • Build secure and fault-tolerant database systems following cloud-native design and DevSecOps practices.
  • Perform detailed performance optimization focused on refining SQL queries.
  • Perform detailed performance optimization focused on improving indexing strategies.
  • Perform detailed performance optimization focused on planning vacuum and analyze operations.
  • Perform detailed performance optimization focused on tuning connection pooling and load distribution.
  • Enhance OpenSearch cluster efficiency in areas such as indexing speed, shard and replica configuration, search response times, and log analysis workloads.
  • Monitor system performance using tools like CloudWatch, Performance Insights, OpenSearch Dashboards, and custom monitoring solutions.
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of database and cluster problems such as failovers, replication delays, slow-running queries, uneven cluster loads, and node failures.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and deploy sustainable fixes to prevent recurrence.
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans for PostgreSQL and OpenSearch environments.
  • Enable automation of routine database operations using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and CloudFormation, along with scripting languages.
  • Enforce security controls including IAM policies, encryption for data at rest and in transit, network security groups, and audit logging.
  • Ensure all database configurations comply with internal security policies and regulatory standards.
  • Define recovery objectives including RPO and RTO, and establish corresponding backup mechanisms.
  • Develop backup management strategies covering scheduling and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Implement procedures to enable point-in-time recovery and full disaster recovery operations.
  • Collaborate with application developers, cloud architects, DevOps teams, and data stakeholders to support current systems and plan future enhancements.
  • Advise on database best practices and provide mentorship to less experienced engineers.

  • Basic Compensation: $107,700-$161,600
  • The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
