About the Role

Origin is hiring a Database Administrator to support our mission and our utility-industry clients. You will design, deploy, and maintain secure, high-performance database environments across cloud and hybrid architectures, ensuring reliability, scalability, and compliance for Utilities applications and the Origin SmartCity SaaS platform.

What You'll Do

  • Design, deploy, and administer database architectures across development, test, production, and public environments for Origin and its clients.
  • Perform Oracle database installations, patching, upgrades, and migrations for Oracle Utilities products like CC&B, C2M, and MDM.
  • Implement backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations including RAC and Data Guard.
  • Monitor and tune performance across environments to maximize uptime and reliability.
  • Provide recommendations for SQL query performance tuning, especially for slow-running queries and reports.
  • Enforce database security, access controls, and encryption per Origin and client IT standards.
  • Investigate and resolve user-reported issues while tracking and mitigating recurring problems.
  • Manage hybrid (on-premises and cloud) architectures and ensure data synchronization and integrity.
  • Design change management and versioning strategies to minimize service disruption.
  • Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans for 24/7 utility SaaS operations.
  • Collaborate with architects, project managers, and developers to align database capabilities with project needs.
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams and client stakeholders via presentations, documentation, and incident updates.
  • Document configurations, changes, incidents, and performance improvements for transparency.
  • Translate utility business requirements, such as meter-to-cash and outage response, into effective database solutions.
  • Build dashboards to report uptime, availability, and performance metrics to clients.
  • Act as the database service owner, ensuring SLA adherence and root-cause resolution.
  • Partner with utility operations and field teams to design data flows and database solutions.
  • Deliver training and documentation for client technical teams on database usage and reporting.

What We're Looking For

  • Expertise in Oracle Database Administration (12c/19c/23ai), SQL, and PL/SQL.
  • Proven experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) database services.
  • Basic knowledge of OUAF technical architecture.
  • Skills in performance tuning, monitoring, backup and recovery, and security controls.
  • Experience with database migration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle automation for provisioning, cloning, and decommissioning.
  • Ability to manage multi-environment setups (dev/test/prod) and tenant isolation.
  • Experience with containerized deployments (Kubernetes, Docker) and DBaaS in utility SaaS platforms.
  • Familiarity with chargeback and show-back metrics for shared services.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and compliance standards (NERC CIP, GDPR, CCPA) and auditing controls (PCI, SOC2).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Proven effectiveness collaborating across distributed teams.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on Oracle technology.
  • Accountability for meeting service-level objectives and uptime targets.

Nice to Have

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting OUAF environments, including WebLogic and Fusion Middleware.
  • Knowledge of supporting SaaS applications like billing, CIS, and MDM and their underlying databases.
  • Ability to align database operations with SaaS release cycles and CI/CD patterns.
  • Experience integrating third-party SaaS modules for utilities and maintaining data consistency.
