Responsibilities
- Take ownership of well-defined, high-impact problems across product and business areas, from framing the question to conducting analysis and collaborating with cross-functional partners to implement solutions.
- Design and evaluate experiments to assess the impact of product and strategic changes.
- Analyze product-wide data to identify root causes of metric fluctuations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to guide product decisions using data.
- Develop tools, methodologies, and frameworks that enhance data literacy across the data team and the company.
Requirements
- Availability for meetings and spontaneous communication during Quora's coordination hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Pacific Time).
- At least 2 years of work experience in an analytical or quantitative role, including 1+ year as a Data Scientist or equivalent title.
- Proven ability to independently drive data analyses that inform product or business decisions.
- Proficiency in statistical techniques (e.g., regression, hypothesis testing, causal inference) and their practical application.
- Effective communication skills, including translating business needs into analytical questions and explaining technical results to cross-functional partners.
- Experience using a procedural programming language (e.g., Python, R) for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis; comfort working in a production codebase.
- Strong judgment that balances quantitative rigor with product intuition and common sense.
Nice to Have
- Experience evaluating experiments or recommender systems through offline analysis and online experiments.
- Experience with large datasets and distributed computing tools (e.g., Presto/Trino).
- Active user of the product with curiosity about it.
Compensation
US candidates: $122,000 - $173,117 USD + equity + benefits. Canada candidates (Toronto/Vancouver): $156,650 - $177,828 CAD + equity + benefits. Canada candidates (other locations): $146,206 - $165,972 CAD + equity + benefits. Starting pay depends on experience, location, education, and business needs.
