Rewiring America is hiring a mission-driven Data Scientist. You will join the Data Science team, reporting to the Lead Energy Modeling and Simulation Engineer and receiving technical mentorship from the Lead Data Scientist. Your core responsibility is to own and contribute to modeling efforts that expand data models for electrification costs and benefits, using data to support policy advocacy, community implementation, and the creation of tools for the wider ecosystem.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain data-driven models, such as accurate utility rate and upfront cost modeling, building subject matter expertise.
- Write efficient, accurate, and well-documented code.
- Communicate model capabilities and limitations to generate clear-eyed assessments of future work.
- Work with partner teams and organizations to understand their challenges and solve them with data.
- Collaborate with the Product Team to build data tools for internal and external stakeholders.
- Synthesize and distill data, communicating analytical results clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
What We're Looking For

- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math; and/or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of experience working with data, solving progressively more challenging problems.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in a remote-only environment.
- Advanced Python skills for data retrieval, cleaning, modeling, and analysis/visualization.
- Experience with collaborative code (git) and methodology reviews, providing thoughtful feedback to peers.
- Content knowledge in climate, building electrification, utilities, and/or renewable energy resources.
- Demonstrated communication ability across formats, delivering information in a concise and compelling manner.
- Ability to scope work to meet near-term objectives and independently communicate status updates.
Nice to Have
- Content knowledge of or related to the utility sector.
- Experience with distributed computing frameworks like Spark or PySpark for large-scale data processing.
- Excellent references demonstrating a strong track record in data science, communication, and teamwork.

You will report to the Lead Energy Modeling and Simulation Engineer, with technical mentorship from the Lead Data Scientist. You'll be part of a Data Science team within a strong technical team that includes data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, and product designers.

- Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000 USD, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
